Froggit as a Mem0 alternative

Short answer: Mem0 describes itself as a memory layer for AI agents and apps. Froggit is company memory for people and AI: knowledge kept as Froggits that carry their sources and review status, read by people and agents from the same place. If your problem is "my app's agent should remember its users," Mem0 is built for that and is a strong place to start. If your problem is "our company's knowledge should survive staff changes, and every AI answer should show where it came from," that is the problem Froggit is built for.

Froggit is made by Frowg Systems, Inc. It is not the Undertale monster and not the Git terminal tool of the same name. See What is Froggit.

What Mem0 does well

Everything in this section comes from Mem0's own documentation.

  • Memory for agents and apps. Mem0's homepage describes "drop-in memory infrastructure for AI agents and apps."
  • Scoped memory. Mem0's Platform API lets you separate memories by user, agent, app, and run identifiers, so you can prevent data from mixing between them. Its docs name use cases such as running assistants for multiple customers who each need private memory.
  • Open source and self-hosting. Mem0 Open Source is documented as the same memory engine as its Platform, running on your own infrastructure, with the data and stack under your control. It can be used as a library (pip install mem0ai or npm install mem0ai) or as a self-hosted server.
  • A hosted MCP server. Mem0 provides an MCP server with tools to add, search, update, and delete memories, so an agent can decide for itself when to save or look something up.
  • Built-in graph memory. Mem0's docs say graph memory is built into its platform, with nothing extra to deploy.
  • Broad integrations. Mem0's docs list setup guides for 22 tools, including LangChain, CrewAI, LlamaIndex, and the Vercel AI SDK, plus guides for coding agents.
  • Published retrieval benchmarks. Mem0 publishes benchmark results for its managed platform in its GitHub README. We have not re-run them. Read them there, with Mem0's own caveats.

Ways to connectHosted MCP server, REST API, libraryMCP, REST, and A2A

MCP and REST are not what separates the two products; both offer them. We have not checked whether Mem0 offers A2A. For anything about Mem0, its site and docs at mem0.ai are the authority, and we have not tested the product ourselves.

Where Froggit differs

1. The unit is a Froggit, not only a memory entry. A Froggit is not just text. It carries lifecycle state, provenance, source verification, confidence, review status, and answer eligibility. The design choice is to keep knowledge together with the evidence for it.

2. It is written for the company as well as the agent. The aim is for the same knowledge to be read by a person on your team and by an AI assistant. Froggit's homepage frames the problem as "People leave. Projects end," and describes capturing what usually disappears so employees and AI systems share the same trusted context.

3. Citations come back with results. Froggit's public MCP manifest offers search and fetch tools. They return citation URLs, IDs, text, and citation metadata for public, safety-filtered Froggits, so an answer can point at the Froggit it used.

4. Submissions are reviewed. On Froggit's REST agent gateway, newly registered agents start at a basic trust level, and their submissions enter an approval queue: they are queued for review, not approved or public.

5. A2A. Froggit documents an A2A endpoint alongside MCP and REST.

Who this is written for

  • Agency and consulting founders. If you need a new team member or an AI assistant to pick up a client engagement with sources attached, shared company memory is the fit. If you are building an assistant that serves many of your customers, each with private memory, Mem0's scoped memory is built for that.
  • Content and marketing leaders. Approved claims, brand voice, and past decisions kept as sourced Froggits give AI tools something to cite instead of something to guess.
  • Operations and knowledge leaders. When an AI answer is questioned, you can trace it to the Froggits and sources behind it.

When Mem0 (or another agent memory layer) may be the better fit

These are our judgments, based on what Mem0's docs describe.

  • You are building a product and need your agent to remember its end users, with memory separated per user, agent, or app.
  • You want a library you wire into your own application code, or a memory engine you host yourself.
  • You want a hosted MCP server that lets an agent write, update, and delete its own memories.
  • You want built-in graph memory and an existing integration for your agent framework.
  • You want to compare published retrieval benchmarks before choosing.

Different layers can serve different needs, and the two are not either/or.

Questions to ask any memory product

Use these with Mem0, Froggit, or anyone else:

  1. Can a person on my team read and review what the AI knows?
  2. For any answer, can I see the source it came from?
  3. Who can write to the shared memory, and what happens to a new writer's submissions?
  4. What happens to the knowledge when the person who added it leaves?
  5. How does my AI client connect, where does the data live, and can I leave with it?

Frequently asked questions

Is Froggit a Mem0 alternative?

It is an alternative if you want company memory shared by people and AI, with sources attached. It is a different kind of product from a memory layer you build into your own agent, and for that job Mem0 is a reasonable choice.

Does Mem0 support MCP?

Yes. Mem0 documents a hosted MCP server with tools to add, search, update, and delete memories.

Can Mem0 be self-hosted?

Yes. Mem0 documents an open-source version that runs on your own infrastructure, as a library or a self-hosted server.

Is Froggit a vector database?

No. A Froggit is a unit of knowledge with its evidence and review state. Search over Froggits is a feature of the memory, not the definition of it.

Does it work with my AI assistant?

Froggit's MCP manifest uses streamable HTTP transport with bearer authentication. Clients that support that can connect. REST and A2A are also available.
